With increasing consciousness for environmental protection and the reinforcement of environmental legislation, more and more attentions is paid to the recycled and green lifestyle. Such as plenty of silicone products in 3C industry, recyclable lithium batteries, paper straws, renewable energy including wind energy, solar energy, water energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy and other non-fossil energy.

Patty Stapp, VP, Raw Materials, lululemon, said, “Replacing the petrochemicals that make up many popular materials with more sustainable alternatives is a major step forward in reaching our Impact Agenda goals. By transitioning our nylon to renewable content, we will impact over half of the synthetic materials we use in our supply chain.”

Guess what, 90% of fitness-loving people are environmentalists, and we, as a tiny member of the earth, also have the duty to protect the environment from destruction. The emergence of recycled fabrics provides fitness people with a perfect new idea of environmental protection.

Environmental protection has gradually become a design tendency that cannot be ignored. Since the second half of the 1980s, the international fashion design masters have set off a trend of "ecology fever" which continually launched environmental protection series of clothing.  This trend didn’t decreased even into the 1990s with the improvement of global environmental awareness. The Earth Statement kicked off New York Fashion Week with a fashion show called "Future Fashion" on January 31, 2011. This show featured 30 outfits designed and made from continuously produced materials by some of the world's top fashion designers.

Humans have been wearing clothes for 70,000 years and the function of clothing also has undergone earth-shaking changes in appearance and material. People want clothes to protect themselves as well as the environment, so environment-friendly fiber and recycled clothing will be the trend of the future. As a yoga lover, why not choose recycled material as our first choice of yoga wear?

What is recycled fabric?

The waste fabric after washing and processing again to revitalize, becoming a kind of fabric which called recycled fabric so that MOWIN can be manufacture yoga clothes with it. A great many processes are needed in this process. We put more than 5 years into this study and finally get good feedback.

What is the difference between recycled fabric and ordinary fabric?

Recycled fabric is produced by granulating recycled materials such as PET bottle pieces and foam, and drawing them into fibers. In contrast, conventional fabric is made by polymerizing chemical substances like PTA and MEG and then drawing them into fibers.

How to turn recycled plastic into fabric?

The process from bottles to fabric.

STEP 1 : the collection of abandoned bottles, which are then thoroughly washed and dried.

STEP 2: To create flakes, bottles are shredded and cut into small pieces, then washed at high temperatures, dried with hot air, melted, and molded into pellets.

STEP 3: The pellets are melted again and made into yarn.

STEP 4: Yarn can then be spun into fiber and woven into fabrics.

STEP 5: Ultimately, the recycled fabric, once completed, can be utilized to produce yoga clothes, sports scrunchies, and sports T-shirts.

Advantages and disadvantages

Recycled fabric has many advantages such as more comfortable and skin-friendly. It has the soft feel of cotton as well as the smooth luster of silk. It is not easy to get static electricity and has good elasticity. It chooses natural materials, which are friendly to sensitive skin. The only disadvantage at present is that it is much more expensive.

From an environmental point of view, synthetic fibers don’t bio-degrade and natural fibers might give off greenhouse gasses while recycling of fabric greatly decreases the requirement for landfill space. In conclusion, recycled fabric effectively avoid the waste of resources and environmental pollution and stand out as the darling of yoga wear as well as various fields.
